Samuel Mwaniki

Samuel’s research interests are in the areas of HIV & AIDS, STIs and health systems. He is currently studying the burden of HIV and STIs and access to sexual health services for tertiary male students who have sex with men in Nairobi, Kenya. Samuel holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Science (Tropical and Infectious Diseases) degrees, both from the University of Nairobi where he also works as a Pharmacist and researcher at the University Health Services department. He previously worked as a County Pharmacist in Busia County in Kenya before taking up his current role in 2010. Samuel aspires to take part in research that will influence policy by contributing to the design, development and implementation of the best possible interventions to public health problems, and thereby help in reducing disease burden, alleviating human suffering and promoting socioeconomic development. He won a scholarship from the University of Nairobi to study for his master’s degree, and a 6-month studentship to carry out his research project at KEMRI – Wellcome Trust under the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI) in Kilifi, Kenya. He is currently a CARTA Cohort 8 PhD Fellow.
