About Enock Chisati
A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiotherapy at the College of Medicine, University of Malawi and a member of the College of Medicine Research and Ethics Committee (COMREC). Enock is also the country contact for Global Observatory for Physical Activity (GoPA). He obtained his PhD in Exercise Physiology in 2020 from University of Malawi, College of Medicine; and an MSc in Exercise Physiology and Sports Sciences in 2014 from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Since 2011, when he joined College of Medicine as an Assistant Lecturer, he has held various positions from year coordinator (2014 to 2016), Deputy Head of department (2014 to 2016) up to Head of Department (2016 to 2020). His research interests are in understanding the beneficial effects of exercise on the underlying mechanisms of human physiology to guide treatment and prevention of lifestyle diseases and chronic conditions such HIV. Enock is also interested in understanding the effects of exercise on sports performance and injury prevention. Post-PhD, he plans to build on the PhD work which focused on exploring factors that are associated with reduced bone mineral density (BMD) and the effects of strength exercises on increasing reduced BMD in Malawian adults living with HIV and receiving antiretroviral therapy. His PhD project revealed some gaps in BMD data in Malawi, thus he will work to understand BMD dynamics in relation to physical activity among Malawian adults living with HIV and receiving antiretroviral therapy. To better understand the BMD dynamics, it would be prudent to determine local reference data for BMD which he also intend to investigate. Overall, Enock hopes to grow into a research leader in the area of physical exercise and health within our region.
